Top Ten Goalies Week 12 - Saves
Every week Tier3juniorhockey.com highlights the leaders in different categories. This week we'd like to honor the goaltenders across Tier 3 who have faced the most shots/made the most saves through the first 11 weeks of the 2015-16 season.
1. Blair Sanders, 1995, Blaine Energy, 1098 Saves
No other goaltender in all Tier 3 Junior Hockey comes close to the number of shots faced as Blaine Energy goalie Blair Sanders. In his second season with the Energy, the Missouri native, has faced 1235 shots on goal through 20 games, 119 more shots than he faced through 27 games in the 2014-15 season. Facing an average of 62 shots per game, Sanders maintains a .889 save percent.
2. Devin Day, 1995,Charlotte Rush Elite, 632 Saves
Charlotte Rush Elite goaltender Devin Day faced 699 shots on goal through his first 20 games in net this season, averaging 35 shots per game. A 6'2 175lb California native, Day faced a season high 53 shots in a September 26 loss to the Atlanta Jr Knights. Day earned his lone shutout on the season on November 14th and currently holds a 2.95gaa and .904 save percent.
3. Justin Ketola, PAL Jr Islanders Premier, 623 Saves
In his second season with the PAL Jr Islanders, goaltender Justin Ketola has faced 673 shots on goal through his first 18 games in net, 34 less shots than he faced through the same number of games in the 2014-15 season. A 5'11 165lb Minnesota native, Ketola faced a season high 61 shots on October 18th, allowing 3 and earning a single game .951 save percent. To date, Ketola earned an 11-7-0 record, 2.82gaa, a .926 save percent this season as well as a shutout on November 12th.
4. Kyle Mugica, 1995, Marquette Royales, 615 Saves
In his second season playing at the Tier 3 level, Kyle Mugica played his 2014-15 campaign with the Ontario Avalanche of the WSHL before joining the Marquette Royales for the 2015-16 season. Through his first 16 games between the pipes for the Royales, Mugica faced 681 shots on goal, averaging 42 shots per game. Mugica, a California native, faced a season high 64 shots in his first game this season in a 3-5 loss to the Motor City Hawks. Mugica currently holds a .903 save percent.
5. Wyatt Ulrich, 1996, Steele County Blades, 612 Saves
In his second season with the Steele County Blades, Wyatt Ulrich faced 679 shots on goal, 194 more than he faced in the 2014-15 season with one more game played. Ulrich faces, on average, 45 shots per game while maintaining a respectable .901 save percent. A 1996, Ulrich currently holds a 5-9-1 record between the pipes for the Blades who currently sit in 6th in the USPHL Midwest Western C0nference standings.
6. Stephen Mundinger, 1995, New York Aviators, 610 Saves
New York Aviators go to goaltender Stephen Mundinger faced 648 shots through his first 18 games in net, averaging 36 shots per game. Mundinger faced a season high 52 shots in an October 16th matchup against the Jersey Shore Wildcats. A 6'7 210lb native of New York State, Mundinger, with 12 wins currently ranks 2nd across all Tier 3, holds a 2.18gaa, a .941 save percent and has logged one shutout on the season.
7. Mason Wilson, 1996, Philadelphia Revolution, MJHL, 594 Saves
Philadelphia Revolution goaltender Mason Wilson faced 665 shots through his first 18 games in net at the Tier 3 level. Wilson faced a season high 61 shots on goal on October 11, 2015, allowing 3 and earning a single game .951 save percent. The 6'0 180lb Philadelphia native currently holds a 4.22 gaa and a .893 save percent.
8. Tim Sestak, 1995, New York Applecore Premier, 582 Saves
In his second season on the New York Applecore roster, goaltender Tim Sestak faced 646 shots through his first 16 games in net, averaging 40 shots per game. A 6'1 185lb Connecticut native, faced a season high 57 shots on October 24th in a loss to the New York Bobcats. Sestak currently holds a 4.39 gaa and a .901 save percent.
9. Jordan Bustard, 1996, CT Nighthawks Premier, 536 Saves
Connecticut Nighthawks goaltender Jordan Bustard faced 592 shots through his first 13 games between the pipes, averaging 45 shots per game. A 6'3 195lb Flanders NJ native, Bustard faced a season high 66 shots on goal in the Nighthawks October 24th loss to the CT Oilers, in spite of allowing only three goals (.955 sv%). Bustard currently holds a 4.54gaa and a .925 save percent.
10. Tom Aubrun, Rochester Jr Americans Premier, 510 Saves
Through 13 games in net for the Rochester Jr Americans this season, goaltender Tom Aubrun faced 552 shots on goal, averaging 42 shots per game. A 5'11 160lb French import, Aubrun faced a season high 53 shots on October 12th in a 3-1 victory over the South Shore Kings, earning a single game .981 save percent. To date, Aubrun holds a 3.09 gaa, .924 save percent and earned a shutout on November 1st.
