Tommi Ahlgren Logs 7th Shutout Entering Tier 3 Junior Hockey Record Books
North Iowa Bulls veteran Goaltender Tommi Ahlgren (1995) logged his 7th shutout of the 2015-16 season in the Bulls 10-0 victory over the Wisconsin Whalers placing himself 3rd in the Tier 3 Junior Hockey record books.
With 35% of the season games leaving his opponent scoreless, Ahlgren earned his first shutout back on September 27th in the Bulls 8-0 victory over the Chicago Jr Bulldogs, an achievement that began a 12 game win streak that was active through the teams New Years Eve game against the Rochester Ice Hawks. A native of Finland, Ahlgren earned four shutouts in that span, setting a precedent for a season that would set him apart as one of the top goaltenders in all Tier 3.
Through his first 20 games between the pipes this season, the 6'2 180 pounder earned a 16-2-2-0 record, a 1.24 gaa and a Tier 3 best .956 save percent. The current Tier 3 record for best save percent in a season is .954 set through the 2009/10 season by Atlanta Jr Knights Kevin Carr while the team played as part of the MJHL, Ahlgren is poised to potentially beat that.
Combined through two seasons on the North Iowa roster, Ahlgren earned a highly respectable 28-3-2-1 record, 8 shutouts, a 1.59 gaa and .942 save percent.
The Bulls will close out the season with a 3 game series against the Chicago Bulldogs beginning on Friday March 11, 2016.
