The Uncommitted 1996 series continues, focusing on players aging out of Junior Hockey who have yet to commit to a University or advanced to a higher level of hockey for the 2017-18 season.
In his third season developing at the Tier 3 Junior Hockey level, Binghamton Jr Senators Goaltender Steven Schmitt finished the regular season as statistically a top 25 goaltender. Registering a 1.85gaa and a .936 save percent which ranked 24th and 17th respectively among nearly 250 Tier 3 Goaltenders to tally over 600 minutes.
A Pennsylvania native, Schmitt began his Tier 3 Career with the Wooster Oilers during the 2014-15 season, and split time with the Oilers and the Cape Cod Islanders in 2015-16 before joining Binghamton this season. The 5'10 180lb goalie split time between the pipes with teammate Sal Lauretta, earning an 18-1-0 record and recording his only loss on the season November 19, 2017 when the Senators fell 2-3 to the Jersey Shore Wildcats. The loss was book-ended by two of Schmitts 4 shutouts this season.
