Former Tier 3 Players Playing Tier 1 in 2016-17
The 2016-17 United States Hockey League season is well underway. Currently 21 players who developed at the Tier 3 Junior Hockey level appear on USHL rosters. Through the 2015-16 season 33 Tier 3 alumni earned the opportunity to compete at the Tier 1 level.
The Chicago Steel roster Former EHL Defenseman Corson Green. The 6'3 191lb New York native logged 12 points through 18 games in the Eastern Hockey League through the 2015-16 season. Green has played in 3 of the 4 Steel games this season. The Chicago Steel are currently leading the USHL Eastern Conference with an undefeated 4-0 record.
The Cedar Rapids Roughriders roster Forward Samuel Sternschein, Sternschein developed in the EHL during his 2014-15 campaign. Sternschein logged 1 goal and 1 assist through 5 games this season.
Three former Eastern Hockey League players are on the Lincoln Stars roster: Forwards Chayse Primeau and Mike Gillespie and Goaltender Cayden Primeau. Each of these players came directly out of the EHL. Chayse logged his first goal at the Tier 1 level on September 23rd and Gillespie, in his 3rd season with the Stars, earned one goal and one assist through four games for the 3-3 Lincoln Stars. In net for 3 of the teams games, Cayden Primeau earned his first win on October 1st.
The Muskegon Lumberjacks roster Forwards Logan Drevitch, Anthony Del Gaizo and Defenseman Marc Del Gaizo. All three of these players developed in the EHL. With 3 goals and 2 assists on the season, Logan Drevitch is averaging a point per game. Anthony Del Gaizo logged his first goal for the Lumberjacks this past weekend on October 8th and Marc Del Gaizo played in all 5 games for Muskegon who is currently 4-1 and second in the USHL Eastern Conference Standings.
The Sioux City Musketeers roster Former MnJHL Goaltender Matiss Kivlenieks and former EHL Forward Matthew Steeves. Although Steeves no longer appears on the Musketeers roster, he logged 2 goals through 5 games this season. Sioux City is 3-2 on the season and in net for all the teams wins was Matiss Kivlenieks who currently holds a 3-1 record, 1.21gaa and a 0.951 save percent.
The Dubuque Fighting Saints roster Forwards Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup Regan Cavanagh, Zach Solow and goaltender Mike Robinson. Although his time at the Tier 3 level was brief, Zach Solow developed with the Dells Ducks through the 2014-15 season while the Ducks were part of the former MnJHL. In his second season in Dubuque, Solow logged 2 points through the first 5 games. Regan Cavanagh found the net 3 times and assisted on another through his first five games with the Saints. Schmidt-Svejstrup has played in 5 games for the 2-3-0 Saints. Robinson has yet to receive ice time.
The Sioux Falls Stampede roster former EHL Forwards Austin Albrecht and Matthew Quercia. Albrecht earned 2 goals and 6 assists for 8 points through 5 games this season and Quercia has played in 4 of the Stampedes 5 games. The Stampede are 2-2-1 on the season.
The Tri City Storm roster former Tier 3 Forward Charlie Kelleher. Kelleher logged 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points through 7 games for the 2-4-1 Storm.
The Youngstown Phantoms roster former Defenseman Dominic Dockery. A 1997, Dockery has played in all 5 of the 3-2 Phantoms season games.
The Bloomington Thunder rosters 3 former Tier 3 Defensemen. Daniel Willett, Simon Butala and Zachary Mirageas. Each of these players has played in all four of the Thunder games this season. The Thunder are 1-2-1 on the season.
