Wood, Cohn, and Carbo Earn EHLP Weekly Honors
The EHLP is pleased to announce that Matt Wood (Philadelphia Jr. Flyers), Justin Cohn (Philadelphia Jr. Flyers), and Connor Carbo (Vermont Lumberjacks) have been named the TSR Hockey Stars of the Week.
Another big weekend in the EHLP kicks off on Friday, with 11 total games on the docket. The next set of TSR Hockey Stars of the Week will be released a week from today on Monday, October 2nd at 9:00am. Catch the EHLP action all season long on HockeyTV.
Forward - Matt Wood (Philadelphia Jr. Flyers)Led by Wood, the Jr. Flyers rolled to a weekend sweep of the Central Penn Panthers. With the pair of victories, Philadelphia is now 4-0-1 in their first five games, and they currently sit at the top of the South Conference standings. Through the first five games, Wood leads his team with 11 total points. This past weekend included a pair of goals and five assists, all while extending his point streak to four games. Outside of an overtime loss to the Philadelphia Revolution, the Jr. Flyers have been one of the top teams in the EHLP so far this season, and they will look to stay hot this weekend when they travel to take on the Boston Jr. Rangers this Saturday.
Defenseman - Justin Cohn (Philadelphia Jr. Flyers)While Wood was the catalyst up front for the Jr. Flyers, Cohn led the way on the blue line. After being held off the scoresheet in his first two games of the season, Cohn bounced back with a goal and four assists against the Central Penn Panthers. Similar to Wood, Cohn now has his own point streak going, and he'll look to extend that number higher than two as the Jr. Flyers hit the road for five of their next six games.
Goaltender - Connor Carbo (Vermont Lumberjacks)Between the pipes, Carbo helped the Lumberjacks pick up right where they left off during the 2016-17 regular season when they led the EHLP with the most points in the league. Carbo got the nod for the season opener against the New Jersey Renegades on Friday, and turned away 36 of the 39 shots he faced in the 7-3 victory. Saturday brought with it a day off, and then Sunday began with Carbo backing up Eric Roy. After a difficult 1st period for Roy, Carbo entered the game and stopped all 28 shots he faced the rest of the way. The Lumberjacks came all the way back from a 3-0 deficit to pick up a 4-3 overtime victory against the New Jersey 87s.
Honorable Mention - Logan Discanio (Vermont Lumberjacks)Most week's five points in three games would lead a player to a Star of the Week honor, but that unfortunately was not the case for Discanio. The Lumberjacks forward scored in all three of his team's games, including the overtime-winner on Sunday. Discanio will look to stay hot as Vermont plays host to the Valley Jr. Warriors on Friday and then the New England Wolves on Saturday and Sunday.
