Nighthawks Make Big Strides in First Season
SIMSBURY, CT -- The 2015-16 season was filled with many ups and downs for the Connecticut Nighthawks, but when you take a step back, the organization can be very proud of the strides they took in their first season in the EHL. The Nighthawks played in the first game of the season in the Premier Division, knocking off the Philadelphia Revolution by the score of 3-2. From there the Nighthawks went on to battle their way into the South Conference playoffs, and were eventually knocked out by the Philadelphia Little Flyers in the first round.
Jeff Tory took over as the head coach of the Nighthawks in early November, and is working hard this off-season as he prepares for his first full season in the EHL.
“We are really going to try to promote more of our players staying with billet families. Most of our billet families are from our youth organization and I really like a situation where [our players] can build a bond with a family and in particular with a young boy or girl playing hockey. I think that it is pretty cool to build that relationship,” Tory said. “The more the young kids get excited about the junior team and the junior kids giving back to them is a better situation all around.”
These bonds are forming throughout all of the teams in the EHL, and there is no denying the success that comes from living with a billet family. The EHL is fortunate to have so many families step up and host our players, because without these families our league would be much different.
Looking back at this past season, the EHL would like to congratulate all of the Nighthawks players that made their NCAA Commitments.
“Every player has commented that they know the EHL is a good league as far as reaching their college aspirations. It is a real credit to the league and each team. I am extremely impressed with everything the league does in terms of staying in contact with the colleges and putting on good showcases,” Tory added. “I think they do a lot of stuff to put the kids on the best platform and in a good situation to be seen.”
