Eight Former Tier 3 Hockey Players on the 2016-17 Wildcats Roster
The 2016-17 University of New Hampshire NCAA Division 1 Mens Hockey program rosters eight players who played at the Tier 3 Junior Hockey level as part of their development.
Incoming Freshman Forward Brendan Van Riemsdyk (Islanders HC) committed to play for the Wildcats in November of 2012 during his High School campaign at Christian Brothers Academy. The 6'4 201lb New Jersey native played two seasons at the Tier 3 level from 2014-16, averaging nearly a point per game through 90 regular season games in an Islanders jersey.
Returning to the Wildcats are Junior Forward Shane Eiserman (Valley Jr Warriors 2010-11) who played 10 games at the Tier 3 level before advancing to play in the USHL for two seasons prior to college. Senior Defenseman Dylan Maller (Palm Beach Hawks, MetJHL) played one season of Tier 3 during his 2009-10 campaign and later playing two seasons in the USHL before starting his NCAA career. Sophomore Forward Frankie Cefalu (Walpole Express, EHL) played two season of Tier 3 from 2013-15 recording 118 points through 86 regular season games. Cefalu logged 3 points in 7 games for the Wildcats in 2015-16. Sophomore Forward Ara Nazarian (Valley Jr Warriors) played a season of Tier 3 amidst his High School campaign, advanced to a season in the USHL and logged 14 point through 36 games his Freshman season with the Wildcats. Junior Goaltender Danny Tirone (Jr Bruins) split the 2014-15 season with 21 games at the Tier 3 level and 20 games for the Wildcats. Tirone earned a 9-19-6 record in net through the 2015-16 season. Junior Forward Jason Salvaggio (South Shore Kings, EmJHL) played 18 games at the Tier 3 level in 2009-10 before finishing his High School campaign, followed by two seasons in the USHL. Sophomore Forward Chris Miller (Northern Cyclones & Jr Bruins) played 5 seasons at the Tier 3 level before beginning his college career, the first with the Cyclones and 4 with the Bruins.
Three former Tier 3 players committed to New Hampshire for the 2016-17 season but do not appear on the Wildcats roster, they are Liam Darcy (Islanders HC), Charlie Kelleher (Jr Bruins) and Mike Robinson (Boston Jr Rangers & Jr Bruins). Each of these players committed while in High School and chose Tier 3 to continue their development. All 3 are 1997 Birth years.
Five former Tier 3 players were on the 2015-16 Wildcats roster but will not be returning to the team in 2016-17 including John Furgele (New Jersey Hitmen), Harry Quast (Bay State Breakers EJHL), Collin MacDonald (Jersey Hitmen EJHL), Jamie Regan (Philadelphia Flyers EJHL) and Kyle Smith (Jr Bruins EJHL). Macdonald, Quast and Smith graduated with the latter two playing games in the ECHL to finish out the 2015-16 season. Smith will continue his hockey career with the Kalamazoo Wings (ECHL).
