Tier 3 Junior Hockey Alumni Watch | Brown University
The Brown University NCAA Mens 2016-17 Hockey roster shows a 50% increase in players who developed at the Tier 3 level over 2015-16.
Tier 3 Junior Hockey alumni playing at the NCAA Division 1 level through the 2015-16 season numbered 248. Of those, six played for the Brown University Bears. Brown recently released their 2016-17 roster and the number of former players who developed at the Tier 3 level increased by 50% over 2015-16.
Four incoming Freshmen played at the Tier 3 level including Brent Beaudoin (F, Islanders HC) who is a direct from Tier 3 to NCAA advancement. Beaudoin committed to play college hockey at Brown early in 2015 while playing on the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs roster. The 5'11 181lb Forward joins the Bears with one year of Junior eligibility remaining after averaging nearly a point per game with the Islanders in 2015-16. Also preparing for their freshman season are Forwards Nolan Aibel and Trey Dodd and Defenseman Joe Maguire. Aibel played for the New Jersey Rockets from 2012-14 before advancing on to both the USHL and BCHL. Aibel originally committed to Brown for the 2017-18 season in February of 2016 while playing in the BCHL, but will don the #9 jersey for the Bears this Fall. The 5'11 205lb Trey Dodd is a prime example of how advancement among the junior ranks leads to playing college hockey. Dodd played for the St Louis Jr Blues through his 2012-13 campaign before advancing to play a season in the NAHL followed by 2 seasons in the USHL, making his commitment to Brown in February of 2015. Former New York Bobcats Defenseman Joe Maquire played a season and a half at the Tier 3 level before advancing to the USHL, making his commitment early in the 2015-16 season. Returning to the Bears roster are Andrew Doane (F, SR), Alex Brink (F,SO), Connor Maher(G, JR), Max Gottleib (D, SO) and Tyler Bird (F, JR). Defenseman Gottleib led the Bears in Assists through the 2015-16 season. The 6'2 200lb New Jersey native played two seasons at the Tier 3 level for the New Jersey Rockets from 2011-13. Forward Tyler Bird was taken #137 by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2014 NHL Draft and played 17 games for the Valley Jr Warriors during the 2011-12 season. Former South Shore Kings Forward, Joe Prescott played four seasons for Brown, graduating after the 2015-16 season.
